Chubb Integrates Hybrid CCTV System for Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong, September 17, 2007 – Chubb Hong Kong, part of UTC Fire & Security and a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has been awarded a contract to implement a hybrid analogue/digital CCTV system for the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Approximately 800 aircrafts take off and land every day at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), making it the world’s fifth busiest international passenger and cargo airport. Chubb Hong Kong will be responsible for implementing a hybrid analogue/digital CCTV system inclusive of an on site verification of the existing analogue CCTV system that was installed in 1997; recommendations of how to modify and replace the existing system to enlarge the video processing capacity while incorporating a new digital storage system; and a contingency plan that will help HKIA minimize the disruption of operations and ensure a certain level of organizational stability and orderly recovery in the event of a system failure.

“This is an extremely comprehensive project as the new digital based hybrid CCTV system will be required to interface with the current communications sub-systems,” commented Joseph Cheung, General Manager for the Chubb Hong Kong Electronics Security Division. “The key to designing and integrating a new hybrid analogue/digital CCTV system is determined by the thoroughness of the site survey.”

Digital CCTV systems are becoming increasingly popular as end-users begin to understand the benefits of this coming technology.

“Digital systems in the long run are more cost effective, faster and easier to manage than analogue systems. Additionally, digital systems require less storage space, produce higher quality images and are easy to operate and install,” said Mark Brisson, Managing Director for Chubb and Guardforce Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

New CCTV cameras will be placed in strategic locations of the airport terminal such as airbridges, airside passenger vehicle gate doors, lift lobby exits and the baggage area to give security personnel a scan of the landscape. Furthermore, CCTV cameras will need to be programmed so signals are transmitted to other security devices once an alarm is triggered due to a security violation.

Chubb Hong Kong was chosen due to their specialization in systems integration and sound product knowledge.

“We have been servicing major corporations in the commercial and governmental sectors across the Asia region for more than 30 years. We have an established and capable team of engineers with solid systems integration experience and have helped clients manage their security concerns by implementing a security system that supports their operating requirements,” Brisson concluded.
